Listed below are the most basic troubleshooting steps for BlackBerry Internet Service issues. The following actions will resolve the majority of common BlackBerry Internet Service issues:

  1. Send a personal identification number (PIN) message.
  2. Delete the service books from the BlackBerry device. For information about deleting service books.
  3. Perform a Hard Reset.
    1. Remove the battery from the BlackBerry device. Leave it out for 60 seconds.
    2. Re-insert the battery.
  4. Register the BlackBerry device on the wireless data network.
    1. Go to Options > Advanced Option > Host Routing Table.
    2. Click the trackwheel.
    3. Highlight Register Now.
    4. Click the trackwheel.
  5. Send service books to the BlackBerry device. For information about sending service books.

After installing BlackBerry Media Sync while the BlackBerry Storm smartphone is connected to the computer, BlackBerry Media Sync opens, but displays an error stating that it cannot connect to the BlackBerry smartphone.


This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.


Disconnect the BlackBerry smartphone from the computer, restart the computer, and try again.

For BES Plan Make sure of this, even though the setting is Default.

BES Configuration.

If you are at a company and you are on a BES 4.0, your Administrator must enable the “” setting on the BES. This is a new setting in the Version 4.0 of BES. BlackBerry IPModem

Set the enable IP Modem IT Policy to False under the Security Policy Group in the IT Policy menu.

  1. Open BlackBerry Manager by navigating to Start > All Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > BlackBerry Manager.
  2. On the left-hand side, click on BlackBerry Domain.
  3. On the right-hand side, click on the Global tab.
  4. Click Edit Properties.
  5. On the left-hand side, click on IT Policy.
  6. On the right-hand side, click on IT Policies.
  7. Click the button to open a new dialog box.
  8. Select the appropriate IT Policy and click Properties.
  9. On the left-hand side, select the Security Policy Group.
  10. On the right-hand side, select Enable IP Modem.
  11. Set to False to turn on the IP Modem functionality on the BlackBerry smartphones assigned to this IT Policy.
