Spam and Virus filtering of BlackBerry Internet Service email

You receive messages on your BlackBerry Internet Service account from one of the following addresses:

ResearchInMotion@<service_provider>.blackberry.net

RIMadmin@<service_provider>.blackberry.net

support@<service_provider>.blackberry.net

admin@<service_provider>.blackberry.net

Where <service_provider> is the name of your BlackBerry service provider.

The following is a list of possible subject lines for these messages:

  • *DETECTED* Online User Violation
  • Email Account Suspension
  • Important Notification
  • Members Support
  • Notice of account limitation
  • Security measures
  • Warning Message: Your services near to be closed.
  • Your Account is Suspended
  • Your Account is Suspended For Security Reasons

The body of this message claims that some administrative action has been taken on the BlackBerry Internet Service account or that some administrative action is required by you. For an example of the message body

Cause

This message contains the WORM_MYTOB.MS virus. For more information on this virus, see the Trend Micro security site at http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/ and search for WORM_MYTOB.MS.

Resolution

Resolution 1

Set a filter on your BlackBerry Internet Service account. For instructions,

Delete the BlackBerry Internet Service account and recreate the account with a new user name.

Implement a virus or spam filtering program on the email accounts that are integrated with the BlackBerry Internet Service account.
